An early morning house fire in Philadelphia has killed a woman. The blaze broke out about 4:15 Tuesday morning in a home on the 300 block of North 39th Street in the Powelton section of the city.
Firefighters battled through the smoke and flames to rescue the woman. At the time he was taken to the University of Pennsylvania hospital, the victim did not have any vital signs.
Crews brought the fire under control in about 20 minutes. Investigators are searching for the cause.
