U.S. Airways has announced plans to cut back on flights and slash its workforce in a bid to boost the bottom line. During today's annual shareholders meeting, airline executives said the rising cost of fuel is draining revenues.

In addition to the cutbacks, U.S. Airways will now charge $15 for the first piece of checked luggage, and begin charging $2 for in-flight soft drinks and bottled water.

Last month, the airline began charging an extra $5 for passengers who request a window or aisle seat.
