When was weather radar invented?

During World War II, military radar operators noticed that rain was sometimes detectable, but the focus remained on detecting aircraft and ships. After the war, many of the surplus military radars became available for civilian use and researchers quickly began adapting this equipment for weather-related duty. Gradual improvements were made over the following decades, the most significant being the development of Doppler Radar.
