Chrysler extends closure of Delaware plant

DETROIT - June 30, 2008 The plant closed Monday the 23rd for the annual planned re-tooling. A third week was also planned for an annual company wide vacation period.

The announcement today adds another five weeks that Chrysler spokesman Ed Saenz says is for inventory adjustment due to sales.

The workers will receive unemployment benefits and supplemental pay equal to about 95-percent of their take-home pay.

Chrysler also announced the idling of the St. Louis South plant in October and shift reductions at the St. Louis North Plant. The St. Louis South plant makes the Chrysler Town and Country and the Dodge Grand Caravan minivans.

1,500 workers will be affected.
