AK Steel plans to spend $21 million to expand production of certain types of steel at its plant in Butler County. The West Chester, Ohio-based steelmaker expects the expansion to be complete by late next year.

The project includes installing new equipment at the company's plant near Butler.

The specialty steels produced at the plant are used in high-efficiency power generators and electrical transformers.
