Jury selection done in cop killing trial

A jury has been chosen to hear the trial of a man accused of murdering an eastern Pennsylvania police officer.

Opening statements are expected Monday in the trial of 26-year-old Cletus Rivera.

Prosecutors say Reading police Officer Scott Wertz was chasing Rivera when Rivera shot and killed him in August 2006.

Sixteen Northampton County residents have been chosen to hear the case. Twelve will be jurors. Four will be alternates.

The jury was chosen in Bethlehem because of extensive media coverage of the case in the Reading area.

The jurors will be bused from Northampton County to Berks County for each day of the trial.

On Wednesday, the second anniversary of Wertz' killing, jurors are scheduled to visit the crime scene on North 8th Street.
