Philadelphia is trying to light up the night as a new weapon in the war against crime. The city has started installing new street lights in high crime areas. Nine districts, which have already received more police patrols, are now getting the new lights.

The goal is to stop crime by making streets brighter and visible.

So far 80 new lights have gone up in two districts. A total of 1,000 lights in all are expected to be installed by next summer.
