Car rams home, sparks fire in Broomall

BROOMALL, Pa. - August 19, 2008

The accident happened shortly after 1 p.m. in 900 block of Jamestown Road in the community in Delaware County.

Police say a 72 year old woman lost control of her car, and slammed into the home. The car hit a gas main and meter, igniting the fire.

"It was like a metal bang, really," said neighbor Kevin Henley. "It was like a truck door slamming shut, then someone shouted 'Call 911.'"

Investigators say the driver had just come from a dotor's office, and had blood drawn. Though exactly how the accident happened remains under investigation.

The family inside the home was able to get out safely. Authorities say even the driver was able to get herself out of the car.

Two firefighters were treated for smoke inhalation. There were no other injuries.
