Medical waste cleaned up at shore

AVALON, N.J. - August 24, 2008 Hundreds of needles and other medical waste washed ashore yesterday. It was spotted by beach patrol on the beaches between 9th Street and 24th Street.

The beaches were closed immediately.

Crews picked up the needles and other debris, believed to be from a doctor's office.

Police and health crews scanned the beaches again this morning, and have deemed it safe for beachgoers.
