Hearing postponed for trucker charged in attacks

FLEMINGTON, N.J. (AP) - September 4, 2008 Adam Leroy Lane was scheduled to have a status hearing before a Hunterdon County judge on Thursday. He's accused of stabbing a Bloomsbury woman to death last summer.

But the judge rescheduled the hearing for Sept. 29 to give prosecutors time to prepare a plea offer.

The 44-year-old Lane is currently serving a 25-year sentence for attacking a 15-year-old Massachusetts girl in her bed last year. He's also charged in the death of a Pennsylvania woman last year and the slashing of another woman.

Lane allegedly carried out the late-night attacks randomly along his trucking routes.

Authorities in North Carolina have said they want to question him about the unsolved 1996 killing of a police officer there.
