Couture on the Avenue

ARDMORE, Pa. - September 4, 2008 The Junior League thrift shop in Ardmore will be closing its doors at 2:00 p.m. Friday, but just for three hours.

From five to nine Friday night, it will reopen for a sale that could have Main Line fashionistas and thrift-shop regulars duking it out for deals.

The thrift shop received a donation of more than 600 items from an exclusive Main Line boutique that fell victim to the tightening economy.

"She closed her store donated all of her store to us, so we're having a fabulous event tomorrow night, and it's called Couture on the Avenue, and everything is 75-percent off," Heidi Tirjari, President of the Junior League of Philadelphia, said.

A Red by Valentino dress, originally marked for $825 will be available for $206.

Other Couture items include dresses like a $3,400 evening gown priced at relatively low 860 dollars, along with shoes purses, jeans, and career wear.

A $640 Calvin Klein suit will cost just $160.

The store that donated the clothes got a tax break. Tomorrow's shoppers will save hundreds of dollars and the money raised from the sale will be used to support the Junior League's environmental education programs at schools in Norristown and Philadelphia.

A good deal all around.

The merchandise already out on the floor is just a small percentage of the hundreds of Conture pieces that will be on sale at 5:00 p.m. Friday.
