Delegates energized by McCain speech

ST. PAUL, Minn. - September 4, 2008 - Republicans capped off the convention with confidence. They believe senator John McCain made the speech he needed to make to keep up the party's momentum.

"He knows what he has to do and he did it tonight and he sent all of us Republicans on to do what we have to do," said Vito Canuso, the Philadelphia GOP chairman.

"It was much more successful than I thought it would be. At the beginning of the week, I was worried. I thought this was not going to be much of a convention, but it has turned out to be a terrific convention," said former New Jersey Governor Tom Kean.

Every local delegate who spoke to Action News Thursday night credited Governor Sarah Palin with providing a jolt of energy to move the party toward election day.

"This message has gotten out there and it's electrifying our base, and it's just tremendous," said Rep. Joe Pitts.

Local delegates leave here now ready to take the McCain/ Palin message to voters across the Delaware and Lehigh Valleys. No doubt we will be seeing the candidates quite a lot in the weeks to come.
