Marvin Hamlisch has been named principal pops conductor for the Colorado Symphony Orchestra for two seasons starting in 2009-10. The Denver-based orchestra said Thursday that Hamlisch will lead three pops programs each season.

Separately, Hamlisch was already scheduled to conduct the CSO on Feb. 21 and June 2, 2009.

He and lyricist Ed Kleban wrote the score for "A Chorus Line," which won a Tony and the Pulitzer Prize. Hamlisch, 64, also has won three Oscars, four Grammys and four Emmys.
