Elsewhere, the U.S.-led coalition says troops killed more than 10 militants and detained two others in two separate raids. According to a statement, one of the raids targeted an insurgent commander involved in roadside bomb attack.
The other raid targeted a network headed by the son of a longtime warlord. He is alleged to be behind a number of beheadings and massive bombings.
More than 4,100 people, most of them militants, have died in insurgency-related violence in Afghanistan this year, according to figures compiled by The Associated Press.
