Some 1,400 new bicycle racks are to be installed all over Philadelphia starting this month. The mayor's office says the racks won't just make it more convenient to ride bikes in the city, but they'll also help pedestrians by clearing the sidewalks of improperly locked bicycles.

In addition to the bike racks, Mayor Michael Nutter says the city will work with the William Penn Foundation to explore a bike-sharing program in Philadelphia.
