Arrest made in attack on elderly man - Philadelphia news

PHILADELPHIA - September 14, 2008

Officers revealed footage that shows an attack on an 83-year-old man at a bathroom in the Gallery in Center City on Wednesday afternoon.

Police say three men took part in the scheme to jump him.

Investigators say one of the men acted as a lookout. Then two others walked into the bathroom, beat the man, and then walked out.

The victim is in stable condition at Jefferson University Hospital.

Police Public Affairs have identified the suspect as 27-year-old Joseph Peruto from the 700 block of North 66th Street.

The arrest happened at around 1:30 early Saturday morning. The 1st Judicial District was serving a bench warrant on North Simpson Street to a female on that block. Once they made an entry into the house to arrest the woman, they found a male trying to escape.

When they stopped the man to question him he appeared very nervous. They took him to Central Detectives where they identified him as Peruto and as one of the suspects in the beating of the elderly man.

Peruto is being charged with robbery, aggravated assault, simple assault, theft, reckless endangerment of another person and conspiracy.

Police are still searching for at least two more suspects involved in the beating.
