PHILADELPHIA - September 15, 2008 - Spokesman Ed Kasuba of the Delaware River Port Authority says
the fires were apparently caused by sparking from the shoe
connecting the third rail and providing power. For that reason,
power was shut down to the north side at about 3 p.m. and the PATCO
high-speed train was stalled.
Kasuba says the 50 passengers were moved to the front two cars
of the train at about 4:45 p.m., and then power was restored to
allow those two cars to continue into Philadelphia..
The track on the south side was being used to handle traffic
in both directions, causing delays of at least 10 minutes. Patco says it resumed a normal schedule before 7:00 p.m.
