A public groundbreaking ceremony is planned for next Sunday for a major expansion at Tri-State Bird Rescue and Research in Newark.

Tri-State's Wildlife Response Annex has been designed with environmentally friendly features, including solar panels and rainwater collection devices.

The agency says the new facility will help them care for large numbers of animals suffering after oil spills or outbreaks of disease. The annex also includes an observation deck so visitors can see staff treat victims of oil spills.
