Newark police say, after the robbery, the suspect fled the scene in a box truck and was followed by a bank employee.
That employee called 911, and provided officers with the suspect's location.
Officers then found the suspect in the City of Newark.
The man led police on a chase that ended when he ran off the road into an area behind the Amtrak station in Newark, where he reportedly fired shots at police. State police returned fire, killing him.
The name of the suspect has not been released.
