Trash truck crash closed Black Horse

EGG HARBOR TWP., - September 17, 2008 A 2000 Sterling Atlantic County Utilities Authority trash truck operated by Samuel Copland, 32 yrs old from Egg Harbor Twp., was traveling west bound on the Black Horse Pike over the speed limit and passing other vehicles. The vehicle lost control after making a pass of another vehicle, turned on its side, struck the utility pole and a cement block wall in front of the New Seabreeze Motel. The passenger was ejected from the trash truck during the crash.

The driver and passenger, Isiah White (early 20s from Pleasantville) were transported to the Atlanticare Regional Trauma Center, in Atlantic City, by the Egg Harbor Twp Ambulance Squad with multiple injuries.

Traffic was detoured for westbound Black Horse Pike for approximately 4 hours while the accident was being cleared. Both Verizon and Atlantic City Electric had to remove wires so the truck could be righted and towed from the scene. Issuance of motor vehicle summons is pending completion of accident which is being investigated by Traffic Safety Officers Kevin Devlin, Steven Swankoski and Sgt. Charles Super.
