Police followed the man to the 1200 block of Oakdale, where investigators say the officer saw the man, 20-year-old Maurice Johnson, remove a weapon from his pocket.
One officer fired, while two other officers told Johnson to drop his weapon. Police say he threw his weapon in a yard and ran. Officers caught up to Johnson and arrested him.
Police recovered a .25 caliber semi-automatic hand gun that was fully loaded.
John was charged with aggravated assault and weapons charges.
