Deadline nears for stimulus check applications

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - October 8, 2008 The state's Public Advocate, Ron Chen, says nearly 120,000 seniors and disabled people in New Jersey have not tried to claim their money.

Eligible residents receive $300 to $600.

People who are on fixed incomes such as Social Security Retirement, Social Security Disability or VA benefits can apply, as can taxpayers who don't normally make enough to file a tax return. People receiving only SSI do not qualify, however.

Local libraries have copies of the application form and county offices on aging can help people fill it out.
