NJ football player dies from brain injury

MONTCLAIR, N.J. (AP) - October 16, 2008 Ryne Dougherty suffered a brain hemorrhage during a junior varsity game against Don Bosco Prep on Monday night.

The 16-year-old later underwent surgery at Hackensack University Medical Center.

According to the school's Web site, Dougherty's family announced his death Thursday morning.

Dougherty is the third teenage football player who has died in northern New Jersey this season.

In August, 17-year-old Cliffside Park High School player Douglas Morales died from a head injury, and 13-year-old Sean Fisher of Waldwick died after collapsing during a recreational football practice.
