Let's sew up a championship - Philadelphia News

PORT RICHMOND - October 17, 2008 June Smith has sewn countless team uniforms over the years while at Graphic Gear in Port Richmond.

Today, the long time seamstress experienced a first as she stitched the official World Series patch on the jerseys the Phillies will wear in the upcoming best of 7 championship series.

"They better win.. Real simple they better win," Smith said.

Dan O'Rourke delivered the 130 Jerseys, shirts and patches the team needs to suit up for the series. 12 staff shirts and 60 home and away jerseys two each for players and coaches.

It's a special time for the Phillies equipment and umpire services manager. He was the team's bat boy from 85 to 88 when they lost 100 games in a season. Going with his Phillies to the World Series is a dream come true.

"Can't believe it, but it's here and we have four wins to go…hopefully, there's champagne all over the patches," O'Rourke said.

June, a tough Phillies fan from Frankford, listens to the games via radio because she doesn't own a television.

The team will pick up the away jerseys tomorrow to pack up for the road.

They leave on Monday.

They'll get the home jerseys later. A lot of people hope the guys wearing this jerseys will have the same big bats they've had so far during the playoffs.
