Carbon paper goes science-fiction

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - October 20, 2008

No, we're not talking about some kids' cutouts but something called buckypaper.

It looks like old fashioned carbon paper.

However, buckypaper is the product of nanotechnology made from microscopic tube-shaped carbon molecules.

Researchers at Florida State University say buckypaper is 10 times lighter but potentially 500 times stronger than steel.

Now, it's only made in the lab at high cost and in small quantities.

Researchers say they're working on manufacturing techniques to make buckypaper a commercial reality.
