Nissan to cut production due to US slump

TOKYO - October 20, 2008 - Ikue Matsuura, a spokeswoman for Japan's third-largest automaker, said Tuesday the company will slash output of its Infiniti luxury models and the sport utility vehicles Murano and Rogue at its two domestic plants from November through March.

Nissan's sales in the United States dropped 37 percent year-on-year in September due to slowing demand as American consumers tightened their pursestrings amid the deepening financial crisis.
