Officer crashes, cruiser bursts into flames

EAST WINDSOR, NJ - October 21, 2008 - According to police, 27-year-old Officer Paul Wille, a three year veteran of the force, was responding to a call on Cedarville Road in East Windsor Township around 7:20 p.m. Tuesday.

Investigators say Willie was in a marked patrol car with lights and sirens.

While en-route to the call via Old York Road southbound, and for an unknown reason, the officer crossed over the the northbound lane of Old York Road and struck a utility pole and a tree in the 800 block.

After the crash, four private citizens rushed to Officer Willie's aid, pulling him from the wreckage.

Once he was removed, the vehicle became engulfed in flames.

Patrol Officer Wille was treated at the scene for head and neck injuries.

He was transported to Capital Health Systems at Fuld where he was admitted.

Old York Road was closed between Windsor-Perrineville Road and Conover Road for the course of the investigation.
