Case of cussing costs city

SCRANTON, Pennsylvania (AP) - October 23, 2008

Officials of the Pennsylvania city are paying $19,000 to a woman who was busted for cursing at her overflowing toilet.

Scranton is also paying Dawn Herb's legal fees.

She was arrested last year after a neighbor, an off-duty police officer, heard a string of her blue language through an open window.

But a judge found her innocent on disorderly conduct charges, saying she has a constitutional right to cuss in her own home.

The American Civil Liberties Union announced the settlement yesterday.
