Philly teen gets life in slaying over dirt bike

PHILADELPHIA - October 24, 2008 - A prosecutor says 18-year-old Eric Smith offered no remorse at Friday's hearing for the July 2007 shooting death of 16-year-old Louis Navarro.

Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Selber says Smith blames his lawyer for the conviction a jury returned last month. The lawyer, Daniel Redrine, did not immediately return a call for comment.

The victim had gotten the bike a week earlier for his 16th birthday.

His sister, Yanessa Navarro, says Smith is a coward to have taken her brother's life over a toy.

The family describes Louis Navarro as a good student who hoped to become a mechanic.
