Officer seriously injured in crash

NETHER PROVIDENCE, Pa. - October 26, 2008 It happened around 2:00 at the intersection of Knoll and Turner Roads in Nether Providence.

50-year-old Officer James Eckenrode was traveling north on Turner Road at Knoll Road when he lost control around a curve. His marked police car went off the west edge of the road and struck a tree, trapping him in the vehicle.

Eckenrode was extricated by firefighters, then transported to Crozer-Chester Medical Center for treatment of serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
