He beat out U2, Green Day, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera to win the Best Act Ever award at the MTV Europe Awards last night. Astley was not at the ceremony to collect his trophy.
Astley says in a statement he's honored that his fans worked so hard to help him win the award, and he points out it's his first MTV Europe Award nomination.
How did Astley win? Blame it on Rickrolling, an Internet phenomenon where users click on headlines or links and are re-directed to Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up" video.
The Best Act Ever award was voted on by the public.
