Teen killed in apparent accidental shooting

SOUTHWEST PHILADELPHIA - November 10, 2008 - It happened Monday night at 59th and Dickens in Southwest Philadelphia.

Investigators believe this shooting death may have been a tragic accident among two friends, a 15 and 18 year old playing with a gun.

Police say the two teeangers sitting in a car, playing with a gun they thought had been fully unloaded.

They didn't know that a bullet remained in the chamber.

Sometime after 7pm, the 18 year old was playing with the gun and pulls the trigger. Investigators say it goes off, the bullet striking his 15 year old friend in the head, killing him.

The 18 year old is so distraught investigators say that he runs off and then reappears with his two year old and tells police that he's the guy they're looking for, that he accidentally shot his friend.

Investigators say the gun was recovered a few years away where he had thrown it.

Police say even so, they are thoroughly investigating this to make sure everything checks out.

Now even if it turns out to be an accidental shooting as they 18 year old claims, police say some charges may be filed such as reckless endangerment or involunary manslaughter.
