Losing weight to join the marines

LEWISTON, Maine (AP) - November 18, 2008

Milana dropped 140 pounds in order to join the Marines.

He had weighed 330 and was rejected by both Army and Navy recruiters.

But 11 months ago, Marine recruiters promised to work with him.

The Maine man is now headed to Parris Island, S.C., for boot camp.

He credits his smaller self to exercise, healthier eating and giving up the occasional beer.

Milana adds he even said no thanks to a beer at his going-away party over the weekend.
