Families united in tragedy

PHILADELPHIA - November 19, 2008 - The 20-year veteran cop died after a crash on Monday night.

He is one of the five officers who lost their lives while on duty over the past 13 months.

Some of their families have reached out to one another during this difficult time.

Among them, the family of fallen Officer Isabel Nazario - who also died in a crash this year.

Coming home from school has been different for Jazmine Nazario for the past two months, because her mom isn't there.

"Every day, on a daily basis, I go through pain because of my mother's loss," Jazmine Nazario said.

When Sgt. Simpson was killed in a crash, likek Isabel Nazario was, it hit home.

"It just opened up my wound all over again, just to know he passed away the same way my sister passed away," said Nazario's sister Maritza Mohamad.

"What broke my hear the most is that he's the father of three children," Jazmine said. "No one deserves to suffer how I did."

The family plans to continue to support the Simpsons, despite being hit with yet another tragedy. Just 24 hours before Simpson died, Maritza's father-in-law was murdered.

66-year-old Jamal Ahmad was fatally shot just steps from his home in Juniata. He was like a surrogate grandfather to 15-year-old Jazmine. It's not clear if he was robbed.

"My dad was brutally murdered for no reason. No suspects, no one knows anything. I just beg if someone knows something please call police," said Chadia Soto, Ahmad's daughter.

A viewing for Ahmad was held Wednesday night, just days before Philadelphia says good-bye to yet another fallen officer.
