Booked Solid: D.C. guests reserve Del. hotels

WILMINGTON, Del. - November 20, 2008 The Hotel du Pont has put together an inauguration package because. even though Washington D.C. is over a hundred miles away, Wilmington hotels are finding they're the closest solution for people who really want to go.

Every bed at the Courtyard Marriott in Newark will be filled starting January 19 and Bill Sullivan, the chairman of Delaware's Hotel and Lodging Association, says half of the hotels in the first state are already booked..

"It's just incredible and I think the impact on this state is going to be absolutely incredible at a time when we need it, quite honestly," Sullivan said.

Hotels aren't the only businesses on a roll.

Even finding a seat on a bus will be next to impossible for the inauguration. Delaware Express started booking up the day after the election

"We are book solid, so it's really exciting," Gerry Hartman of Delaware Express said.

Every bus, every limo, every vehicle on wheels will be bound for DC, with one bus taking a California group to a Dover hotel, but Maureen DiEleuterio doesn't need a room.

The wife of Joe Biden's state director booked one weeks ago.

I was really surprised because I thought I was ahead of the game. I would find something, and I spent hours over several days on the Internet and there was not a single room to be found," DiElueterio said.

DiEeuterio finally scored a room at the BWI Airport and only hopes getting to DC from there doesn't turn into a nightmare. In the meantime, Delaware hotel managers are dreaming about the bump in business no one expected

As of Thursday night, some rooms are available, but they may go soon.
