Man not seen for week found dead - Philadelphia News

RHAWNHURST - November 20, 2008 The discovery was made around 6:00 p.m. in a first floor unit of the Northeast Apartment building on the 2100 block of Glendale Avenue Thursday night.

Authorities tell Action News the victim, a 65-year-old man, was tortured, beaten, stabbed mulitple times, bound with tape over his mouth and was found in his underwear.

Police say the victim worked in retail sales and his coworkers became concerned after he did not show up for work all week.

Police describe it as a very bloody crime scene.

Neighbors are in awe.

"I'm really shocked and upset because nothing ever, ever happens in this neighborhood," neighbor Karen Murph said.

Police say the victim may have been dead for a week since he has not been heard from in that time.

Residents say this sort of thing just doesn't happy around here.

"I don't know who would do something like that," neighbor Jerry Karpoleh said.

Police say the victim lived alone and they have reason to believe he knew his assailant.

His name is being held until his relatives are contacted.

No motive has been established yet.
