The incident started around 10:30 p.m. Thursday in the 1900 block of West Montrose.
Police say the homeowner came home and found a man inside the house. The two got into a struggle and the homeowner shot the intruder.
The suspect, said to be in his 50s, died at the hospital.
There's no word from police yet if charges will be filed in this case.
