Underdog? GW says no way - HS FOOTBALL

For the first time since 1979, the true city championship was on the the line as the Public League Champion George Washington Eagles met the Catholic League Champion LaSalle Explorers.

Due to the windy conditions, LaSalle's passing game was put to the test and they had step up their running game. However, in this battle of the city's best, George Washington's running game ran wild and led to a 21-7 lead going into the half.

While the Explorers were able to come back in the second half, thanks to Drew Lockery and Sam Feleccia, and make it a 7 point game, the Eagles were not backing down.

GW's Shareef Floyd made sure to leave a lasting impression with two sacks and a blocked punt with just over three minutes left in the game.

Add a safety and there you have it, George Washington Eagles 23, LaSalle Explorers 14.

The first City Champions in almost 30 years, the 2008 PIAA "AAAA" District 12 Champions - Coach Ron Cohen's George Washington Eagles.

Both teams, from the players to the coaches to their families and fans, should be proud because together they made history and brought Philadelphia back a tradition.

With Vince Papale doing commentary, the Eagles walked out of Charles Martin Memorial Stadium feeling truly invincible.
