6 Guinea-Bissau troops arrested in coup

BISSAU, Guinea-Bissau - November 24, 2008 Interior Ministry spokesman Col. Armando Nhaga says three other suspected coup plotters fled after the gunbattle early Sunday. At least one guard was killed.

On Monday, President Joao Bernardo Vieira returned to work. He and his wife narrowly escaped the assassination attempt by hiding inside their house.

Guinea-Bissau has a history of coups and unrest. Vieira himself came to power in a 1980 coup.
