NJ collects nearly $300K in child support sweep

CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) - December 7, 2008 Sheriff's officers in all the state's 21 counties rounded up 949 people this week in a three-day operation. They targeted parents who haven't paid their court-ordered child support or who've failed to show up at court hearings.

The sheriff's association says nearly $300,000 was collected statewide.

The most warrants, 98, were served in Monmouth County, while Passaic County had the fewest, with six.

And more than $103,000 was collected in Bergen County, more than triple the amount collected in any other county.
