Bristol woman killed in hit and run

BRISTOL, Pa. - December 10, 2008 The incident happened Tuesday night around 6:00. Investigators say the victim was leaving the library, crossing the street to visit a family member when an SUV traveling at a high rate of speed ran her over.

Witnesses in Bristol Boro tell investigators that this was no ordinary hit and run. They say the person who struck and killed 79-year-old Cecilia Profy actually stopped and tried to help Mrs. Profy. But a few moments later, after a crowd began to gather, he got back into his vehicle and simply drove away.

Officer Peter Faight of Bristol Boro PD tells us, "We think he just may have panicked after the crash. And we would insist that he come in and talk with us."

Members of Mrs. Profy's family say they're not angry, but they do want this issue to be resolved quickly.

Vince Profy, Cecilia's son, says, "We'd certainly like to see the person admit, 'there was an accident, I'm responsible for it,' and go on from there."

Vince says he's had a chance to speak about this incident with his sisters and the conversation keeps moving away from death and back to her life, which Vince describes as extraordinary.

"She allowed us to be ourselves. And if you know how important that is - each of us are different. I was thinking about it last night, it's because of her. Whatever we did, she accepted, she supported us. She was a great person."

The vehicle involved is described as dark, medium sized SUV. The person driving the car is described as a white man in his 50's with salt and pepper hair and a salt and pepper goatee. He stands about 5'7" tall and weighing approximately 170 pounds.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the police department in Bristol Boro.
