Bus driver accused of relations with student

BEAR, Del. - December 18, 2008 New Castle County Police have charged 24-year-old Robert Bollinger, from the unit block of Vincent Court in the Waterford Trailer Park in Bear.

The girl recently disclosed the details of her relationship with Bollinger to a school counselor.

Investigators say Bollinger initiated contact with the 9th grader as her bus driver in April, and over time began an intimate relationship with the student.

The two remained in contact over the summer, exchanging text messages and phone calls. When the current school year began they continued talking despite the fact that Bollinger was no longer her bus driver.

Police say Bollinger and the girl met on at least two occasions at a local park where they would allegedly take long walks and have inappropriate contact.

The latest romantic encounter occurred in early December at Bollinger's home.

Police have determined that none of their inappropriate encounters occurred on the school bus or while on school property.

Bollinger was arrested late Wednesday and has been charged with one count of rape in the second degree and four counts of unlawful sexual contact. He has been arraigned and committed to the Howard Young Prison after failing to post $13,000 secured bail.
