Fatal Camden shooting at alleged speakeasy

CAMDEN, N.J. - January 26, 2009

24-year-old Eusebio Castro, of the 100 block of Park Boulevard in Cherry Hill, was killed in the shooting at 2:30 a.m. Monday.

Another man, a friend of Castro, was shot as well and is being treated at Cooper University Hospital in Camden. As a potential witness, the man's name is not being released.

Castro was visiting friends on the 100 block of S. 32nd Street in Camden and the group went to another home on the block to buy beer. There they got into an argument with another group of men. During the altercation, Castro and the other victim were shot.

Camden Police charged the woman who sold the beer with Selling and Possession of Alcohol Without a Proper Alcohol License. It is alleged 33-year-old Isabel Ventura, of the 100 block of S. 32nd Street, operated a speakeasy out of her home. She was issued a summons on the charge.

Anyone with information on the case is urged to contact Camden County Prosecutor's Office Investigator Eric Wren at (856) 225-8400 or Camden Police Detective Ruth Berrios at (856) 757-7420.
