Sunoco, union reach deal at refinery

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - March 3, 2009

/*Sunoco*/ and the United Steelworkers say they reached an agreement on a three-year contract Monday night for more than 650 workers at the South Philadelphia facility.

Negotiations are still under way between the company and another local representing about 450 workers still on the job at the facility in Marcus Hook.

Officials from the union and Sunoco say the contract calls for 3 percent annual raises and a prohibition on involuntary layoffs.

The two sides reached an agreement on a company proposal to cut some staffing levels by 25 percent but did not release details.
