Ex-NJ officer convicted again of teen sex assault

A former Woodbridge police officer has been convicted for the second time on charges he sexually assaulted a teenage boy more than a decade ago. A Middlesex County jury deliberated for about four hours before declaring 48-year-old Douglas Karlson guilty of aggravated sexual assault and sexual assault.

It was the third time Karlson had been tried on the charges. The first trial ended in a hung jury, and a guilty verdict in the second was overturned on appeal.

Karlson also faces retrial on child endangerment charges for allegedly taking sexually suggestive photos of a 15-year-old girl.

He spent about 1½ years of a 17-year sentence in prison before the convictions were overturned last August. He's to be resentenced on Sept. 21.
