Taking wiffle ball seriously

June 23, 2009 5:20:56 AM PDT
At 6-foot-2 and 265 pounds, Pat Burnell probably could play any kind of ball he wants.

But his game is wiffle ball.

He says when people see his team play, they know wiffle ball isn't just for kids.

Burnell is a member of the Flyin' Wildebeest, one of 14 teams in Michigan's Kalamazoo Wiffle League.

The league started with four friends in a backyard game in 2006.

Since then the KWL has gotten serious, in a playful way.

The Kalamazoo Gazette reports the wiffle league now has an All-Star game, playoffs, league photographer and an unbelievably detailed Web site.
