Bus breaks down on Franklin Bridge

BEN FRANKLIN BRIDGE - July 3, 2009 A Werner tour bus originating from Atlantic City was traveling on the Ben Franklin Bridge towards its destination of Lansdale.

Soon after 7:00 p.m., the bus began to smoke. All the passengers managed to get out; however, one passenger suffered respiratory complications.

That passenger was transported to Hahnemann Hospital.

Philadelphia bound traffic was backed up for over an hour approaching the bridge.

The bus was cleared and lanes reopened around 8:40 p.m.

There is no word what caused the bus to mechanically fail.
