Not long after a composite sketch was released to the media, crime tips began coming in to the criminal investigation unit. The tipsters indicated the composite resembled a male subject named "Gary" who lives in New Castle. Further information gleaned from the investigation revealed Gary was friends with a white male named "Brian" who fit the description of the second suspect involved in the robberies.
Detectives in the Crime Analysis Unit conducted various computer inquiries and located the names of the two suspects who had been questioned by county police officers several months ago during an unrelated incident. Based on this information and additional details surrounding the owner of the green Cadillac Catera that was used during the robbery spree, detectives positively identified a total of three suspects. Two have been arrested, one remains at large.
According to Colonel Rick Gregory, "Our police family and our public are fortunate to have such talented and dedicated professionals. This was a challenging investigation from the onset. This case demonstrates how advances in technology and good old fashion police investigations can work in concert to solve this complex and disturbing crime."
