Child, 4, hurt by exploding firecracker

A 4-year-old child was rushed to Children's Hospital on Monday night after a firecracker accident in Philadelphia. It happened around 7:00 p.m. in the 3600 block of North 19th Street in the Tioga Nicetown section of the city.

Prelminary reports are that an M-80 blew up in the child's hand. The child allegedly got ahold of the explosive and put it up to a candle, leading to the blast.

The child is said to be in stable condition, suffering from burns, lacerations, and possible broken fingers.

Special Victims detectives are investigating.
