Dog fighting ring busted in Germantown

GERMANTOWN - August 24, 2009 SPCA enforcement officers got a tip call on Sunday about a dead dog in a yard. They went to a house in the city's Germantown neighborhood where they discovered two dead pit bulls in the back of the house and five other injured dogs.

Authorities believe the house was used to train pit bulls for dogfights.

James Hargrove, 43, and Tyrik Carr, 18, were arrested and charged with cruelty to animals and criminal conspiracy.

The PSPCA says it gets 75 calls per month about dog fighting, and countless more about animal cruelty. To file reports, contact the Pennsylvania SPCA at 1-866-601-SPCA or email them at: cruelty@pspca.org
